President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday asked the President-elect of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, to justify the confidence reposed in him by Nigeria and the rest of the world by performing well in office.
Buhari and the Nigerian-born Muhammad-Bande met for the first time on Thursday in Abuja after his emergence as the President of the 74th UNGA on June 4 in New York.
While congratulating him, Buhari said, “You have intellectually prepared yourself for this position, well experienced in the field and unanimously elected by your peers.
“You must now justify the confidence reposed in you by Nigerians and the world.’’
Buhari noted that for Muhammad-Bande to have won the election meant that he had earned the respect of his colleagues and the world. [PUNCH]
