The Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission (NCPC), over the weekend in Abuja organized orientation for Medical Personnel (Doctors, Nurses and Pharmacists) that would participate in the 2015 Christian Pilgrimage Exercise.
In his welcome address, the Executive Secretary of NCPC, John Kennedy Opara represented by the Head of Administration of NCPC, Rev. Amos Yohanna congratulated the medical personnel for their success in the first online medical exam conducted by the Commission in July. In his words, “I congratulate you for representing your states and your geopolitical zone in the 2015 pilgrimage exercise as a medical personnel”.
The NCPC boss informed that the Commission was mindful of the health challenges so many Nigerians are faced with and as such, has deepened the screening processes of pilgrims to assist the medical personnel identify serious health issues to ensure a hitch free pilgrimage exercise.
He urged them to be spiritually sensitive while dealing with the issues they would be faced with during the pilgrimage exercise. According him, “allow God to take control and minister to you on ways to handle each case that comes your way effectively”.

He prayed for them to encounter God in a new dimension so that the level of their spirituality would develop further, as they journey with the pilgrims.
Speaking during the event, the Chief Medical Director of the National Hospital Abuja, Dr. Jaf Momoh who presented a paper on the “Successful Handling of Emergency during Pilgrimage Operations’, urged the Medical Personnel to be mentally and physically prepared for any form of emergency during the operation because according to him, “effective and efficient handling of any emergency usually starts with planning for the unforeseen”,
He advised the Federal Medical Committee to provide the Medical Personnel with the necessary resources and equipment that would enable them carry out their work efficiently.
The managing Director of Heavenly Pilgrimage Tours, Dr. MSD Bob- Manuel also presented a paper on “The Role of Medical Team Members being Change Agents”. Dr. Bob-Manuel emphasized on the need for medical team to render professional and quality services to the pilgrims they would be travelling with, in his words, “as change agents, you should ensure that you are able to meet the medical and spiritual needs of the pilgrims”. He urged them to be at their best and accord respect to the pilgrims they would be handling during the pilgrimage operation.
About 176 Medical Personnel participated in the medical orientation from the six Geo-political zones across the country.
