Some youths in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have urged the FCT Administration to provide farmers with agricultural inputs to avert food crisis in the territory. The youths under the auspices of the Abuja Original Inhabitants Youth Empowerment Organisation commended the FCT Administration for the distribution of the palliatives but feared that there may be a food crisis in the FCT if the farming cycle is disrupted by the pandemic. The group’s president, David Isaac, in a statement in Abuja said farmers could not access agricultural inputs due to the lockdown. “We would appreciate it if the minister extends the scope of the palliatives to the farmers in the FCT by providing them with agricultural inputs such as chemicals, seedlings and fertilizers as this is the farming period. “Due to the lockdown in place and the closure of the markets, they are not free to go and purchase these items themselves and the farming season cannot wait for the lockdown to be fully relaxed,” he said. He said the management of the palliatives under the direct supervision of the Minister of State, FCT was highly commendable.
