The seventh Daniel Olukoya Youth and Junior Championships will hold at the High-Performance Center, Port Harcourt on Saturday, April 8, 2017, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has said.

A statement by AFN’s Head of Media and Communication, Olukayode Thomas said athletes from participating states and clubs were expected to arrive on Friday, April 7 for screening at the competition venue.

Thomas said only athletes that pass the screening will be allowed to take part in this year’s championships, adding that the AFN was keen to maintain set standards in not allowing over-aged athletes compete in its age grade competitions.“We have again put in place adequate measures to ensure that only athletes that fall between the age bracket can compete,” he said.

A keen contest is expected in Port Harcourt as this edition of the championship will be used to select Nigerian representatives at the Africa Junior Championships billed to hold in Algeria from June 29 to July 2, 2017.

The AFN also said it would use this year’s D.K Olukoya Championships to aid its selection of athletes for the World Youth Championships and Commonwealth Youth Games taking place respectively in Kenya and the Bahamas later this year.
