As part of efforts to develop sports at the grassroots level, the Lagos State government and soft drink giant, Coca-Cola Nigeria, have launched a fully upgraded sports centre at Araromi community, located in the Gbagada area of Lagos State.

According to the organisers of the event, the sports centre, which has churned out notable football stars, including former Super Eagles forward, Obafemi Martins, would be a viable ground to unearth more football talents in the future.

Speaking at the occasion, Chief Guest at the event, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, represented by his deputy, Dr. Idiat Oluranti Adebule, commended Coca-Cola for its pivotal role in developing grassroots sports facilities.

She said the centre would help to engage the youth on the right part and also assist them achieve their dream in football.

Adebule thanked Coca-Cola for partnering with the state, saying, “The sports centre will provide a platform for the positive engagement of our youths and the discovery of talented young people who will make career out of their skill, and contribute to the growth of the economy.

“I appeal to other corporate organisations to partner with the state government in sponsoring the state’s developmental projects as replicated by Coca-Cola. I believe the funding of local projects such as this should not be the sole responsibility of the government.

We need more private-public partnerships like this to develop the state. I call on the community to take ownership of the centre and put it into judicious use.”
