The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has committed to an anti-corruption war premised on the rule of law. It also canvassed respect for the independence of the three arms of government in the spirit of peace and harmony.
In a statement after its first quarter meeting yesterday in Abuja, CAN President, Rev. (Dr.) Samson Ayokunle, urged application of wisdom and caution by leaders and Nigerians in all their endeavours, especially during this electioneering period.He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), police and other security agents to desist from compromising the coming elections.

Cautioning against harassment of voters and observers, Ayokunle pleaded with politicians and the electorate to shun vote buying.The CAN president appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to make good his promise of conducting free, fair and credible polls this year.
The cleric sought fervent prayers from Nigerians on peace and unity in the country.He acknowledged that the Christian body appreciates the efforts of the Federal Government, military and other security agencies in the war against insurgency and criminal elements nationwide.
Ayokunle, however, regretted that the current measures by government to beef up security were not yielding the desired results, as wanton killings had remained unabated in parts of the nation, especially the northern region.
His words: ‘’Boko Haram appears to have resurrected again, decimating communities in Borno and Yobe states in particular, while not sparing soldiers. This resurgence of insecurity in the North Est portends danger for the forthcoming general elections if efforts at curtailing it are not increased. Many voters might be disenfranchised.”
