Igbo group endorses Okowa for support during crisis
The Ohanaeze Ndigbo yesterday congratulated President Mohammadu Buhari on his reelection, stating that the President’s victory showed that he had been on the right course in the last four years.

Speaking at a media briefing in Enugu, Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Uche Okwukwu, also charged Nigerians not to heat up the polity through unguarded utterances and actions over the outcome of the elections.

He also urged the international community to accept the verdict of the polls as the will of the people, stressing that the election was free and fair.

“Ndigbo are happy that President Buhari secured more votes in Igbo land than he got in 2015,” he said.

Okwukwu apologised on behalf of Ndigbo to the President for what he described as “hurried and wrong decision to adopt Atiku Abubakar as midwifed by President General of Ohanaeze, Nnia Nwodo.”

Besides, the Igbo socio-cultural group in Delta Central and South Senatorial districts has supported the second term bid of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Speaking yesterday at the general assembly and media briefing, President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo in the Senatorial districts, Eze Nnajiofor Michael, said the group was supporting Okowa for standing by the Igbo and reconciling them during its crisis in the state for 14 years.

He said the Senatorial districts convened the assembly to “affirm that Okowa and all Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidates are our choice in the forthcoming election in the state.

But an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Imo State, Livinus Okwara, has accused Ohanaeze Ndigbo of bias and partisanship.

Okwara stated this in Owerri yesterday, saying Ohanaeze leaders have derailed from their responsibility of advancing the general good of the Igbo to pursuing their personal and selfish interests.

He advised the Igbo to rally round across party lines and put up a strong front to further propagate their common interests in the nation’s polity.
