The national working committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended governor of Ogun state Ibikunle Amosu and governor of Imo state Rochas Okorocha over anti-party activities.

The NWC also recommended the expulsion of the governors from the party to the national executive committee (NEC) of APC, after a meeting on Friday in Abuja.

Amosun and Okorocha have openly backed gubernatorial candidates different from APC’s candidate in their respective states. The preferred candidates of both governors lost the APC primaries in their states. Governor Amosun, who contested a senatorial seat in the just-concluded National Assembly election on the platform of the APC, is actively backing Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) for the March 2 governorship election in Ogun State against Dapo Abiodun of the APC.

On the other hand, Governor Okorocha of Imo State and also a senator-elect on the platform of the APC is supporting his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu of the Action Alliance (AA). Nwosu lost Imo APC gubernatorial primaries to Senator Hope Uzodinma.
