Defenidng champions in the men and women’s categories of the Mutual Benefits Badminton championship, Anu Apeyori and Dorcas Adesokan have vowed to retain the titles they won last year in the championship, which begins today at the Mutual Benefits/Police Badminton Hall, Police College, Ikeja, Lagos.

Adeyori seeded number one at this year’s tournament, said the training he had undergone would propel him to retaining the title he won at the last edition.

“My expectation at the championship is to retain the title. I have trained hard and I hope the training I have had will help me perform much better than last year on my way to winning the title again. I am here at this tournament to win,” he said.

Also speaking on this year’s event, Adesokan said despite stiff opposition from her rivals, she hoped to triumph at the end of the day.

“My desire is to win the title again this year. I am sure a lot of players would be at the tournament to upstage me. Both Deborah Uke and Ruth Ebere are other major contenders for this title in the women’s class. But I hope to come out top at the end of the day,” he said.
