Babalola calls for more investment in sports, splashes N3m on athletes

The founder of Afe Babalola University, Ado EkitI (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola, has described sports growth as one of the ways through, which the potentials of Nigerian youths can be developed for more economic gains and prosperity.

Babalola appealed to government at all levels to see sports as a veritable weapon to fight poverty, especially in a country like Nigeria, where youth’s unemployment keeps increasing on yearly basis.

The renowned lawyer and school administrator spoke in Ado Ekiti during the 2018 Yeye Aare Babalola Athletics Sports Festival (YABAS) held at ABUAD on Monday.

At the grand finale of the sports fiesta sponsored by the wife of the founder, Mrs. Modupe Babalola, over 135 athletes drawn from four secondary schools, competed in 14 different sporting.

In her remark at the occasion, Mrs. Babalola said the motive behind the sport fiesta was to discover the talents that are abound in the youth and to keep them away from social vices.

She added that sportsmen and women discovered in the four previous editions are now excelling in national and continental sports in Nigeria and Africa.
