Nigeria’s movie and music industries will now heave a sigh of relief as Canon has released its flagship full frame Cinema EOS camera, C700 FF to AIG Media Pro, the first rental house in Africa to own a wide range of Canon EOS Cinema line up at a ceremony last week in Lagos.

The cameras range from the flagship EOS C700EF, Set of CN Primes lenses down to EOS C100MKII.

According to the Chief Executive Officer, AIG Media Pro, Adeyinka Igbinoba, the movie industry has suffered setbacks due to lack of quality cameras that would bring out quality content and production, noting, “There is a whole lot of difference between Nollywood and Hollywood movies.

One thing about musical and movie production is, no matter how good the script and content are, it is the post-production, production and the visual that matter and if you are talking about the visuals, you are talking about the cameras, the lenses and those are what AIG Media Pro has, sophisticated ones to put Nigeria there in quality production.

“AIG Media Pro is a media company that specialises in the supply of media equipment, videography, cinematography, event coverage, digital marketing, online TV and equipment rental house with unparalleled passion to execute the singular mission of transforming movie and visual industry with state-of-the-art service delivery quality.”

Also, Senior Manager Sales and Marketing-B2C – Canon Central and North Africa (CCNA), Amine Djouahrab, explained that Canon is set on becoming even more than a technical partner to customers in the African continent, adding, “We understand that the region is flourishing and becoming one of the rapidly growing media markets in the world.

Thus, we will continue expanding our footprint in the market via encouraging young talents and catering to their technical as well as support-related needs.”

While commending the landmark event, movie director and Chief Executive Officer, Golden Effect Production, Mr. Kunle Afolayan, noted that Nigerian movie and music industries need high-end cameras that can place it above the African market with it’s video, picture and production quality.

He said his latest film, Mokalic, which would be hitting the cinemas soon, was produced using a Canon C300, adding that the quality of the audio-visual is world class that would stand out in the African market.

“We just shot a film title Mokalic with Canon C300, but we shot using the prime lenses, which was supplied by AIG Media Pro, in partnership with Canon, and I am sure when everybody sees the film they would see a difference. We have worked with high-end cameras, but a lot of people, after seeing Mokalic, will want to work with Canon camera.

“Mokalic is a film set in a mechanic workshop around this young 12 year-old boy, whose father wants him to spend a day at a mechanic workshop and then decide whether he wants to go to school or learn mechanic and we shot it using the prime lenses of C300 camera, but it is a film that will set complete new standards in African cinemas.”

The newly developed next generation Canon full frame 38.1 mm x 20.1mm CMOS sensor camera is capable of recording up to 5.9K, delivering ultimate creative freedom and quality.

The EOS C700 FF also supports multi-format recording, shooting with EF, PL and anamorphic lenses.

When using EF lenses, the C700 FF supports Canon’s innovative autofocus (AF) system, Dual Pixel CMOS AF, which is ideal for full frame format shooting.

The C700 FF camera is also designed for high-end production, enables filmmakers to capture filmic images with unprecedented low noise, natural skin tones, shallow depth-of-field, and a broad ranging tonality that exceeds 15-stops of dynamic range.

These, according to the firm, provide freedom and flexibility in grading and post-production as well as in the capture of HDR images.

The newly designed sensor also allows the user to explore different sensor modes, including full frame, Super 35mm and Super 16mm, whilst recording in a wide range of versatile recording formats that include ProRes, XF-AVC (internally to CFast cards) and Canon’s uncompressed Cinema RAW.
