Chief Ademola Odunade, the President of a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, on Wednesday dissolved a 10-year-old marriage between one Laide Adedokun and Nafisat over disobedience and lack of care.
In his judgment, Odunade, who led two other arbitrators, Alhaji Suleiman Apanpa and Chief Rafiu Raji, said that the court dissolved the union between Laide and Nafisat to prevent a break down of peace and order.
He granted the custody of the two children produced by the union to Nafisat and directed Laide the pay N8,000 as the children’s monthly feeding allowance.
He also ordered the plaintiff to be responsible for the children’s education as well as their other welfare.
Narrating his ordeal, Laide, a commercial motorcyclist, informed the court that he could no longer tolerate his wife’s disobedience and rudeness to him.
Laide said that he had stayed till this time in the marriage thinking that his wife would have a change of heart in her usual gross disobedience and rudeness to him, but that was not to be.
“Nafisat is usually acting against my wishes and normal marital ethics.
“I told her to learn chemist trade, but she ran away from it.

“I also established a business for her, but she squandered the money and refused to continue with it.
“All that Nafisat desired was to go into music, a field which I know she doesn’t fit because she is a bad singer,” Laide said.
Consenting to the suit, the respondent denied most of the allegations leveled against her.
Nafisat, who claimed to be an Islamic musician, said she would have a new lease of life if the court granted the prayer for separation sought by her husband.
“I have endured pains, hunger and wretchedness with Laide, but he is now paying me back with evil.
“When he had nothing, I worked tirelessly like a slave to feed him and our two children.
“Laide is a sadist because he enjoys seeing me in sorrow.
“With his care-free attitude and lack of love towards me, I decided to make living out of my God given talent which is music, but Laide strongly opposed the idea.
“In order not to continue wallowing in starvation, I disobeyed him and forged ahead with my musical career,” Nafisat said.
