Court Remands Man For Alleged Murder, Burning Of Body

An Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court, Lagos, on Wednesday ordered that a man, Idris Mohammed, who allegedly killed a man and burnt his body to be remanded in prison, pending legal advice.

Chief Magistrate O. O. Olatunji, who did not take the plea of the accused, ordered that he be remanded in Ikoyi Prison, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He adjourned the matter till July 10.

Prosecuting Inspector Oladele Adebayo told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 2, at Ojora Street, off Governor’s Road, Ikotun, Lagos.

He alleged that the defendant used a 2Ă—4 piece of wooden plank to hit the deceased, Monday (surname unknown) on his head, killing him and burning the corpse to conceal his act.

Also, a sexagenarian, Cletus Williams, who allegedly hacked his colleague to death, was yesterday brought before an Ebute Meta Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.

Williams, 60, a security guard, appeared on a charge of murder. His plea was not taken.

Prosecuting Inspector D. Raphel told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 24, around 1am at the Lagos State Polytechnic (LASPOTECH), Ikorodu.

He alleged that the defendant had used a machete to hack John Okorogor, 30, now deceased all over his body to death while he was asleep at his duty post.

Magistrate Tolu Agbona remanded the defendant at the Ikoyi prison pending an outcome of legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He adjourned till July 15. [THE NATION]
