Court Sentences Ex-Convict To 12 Months With Hard Labour On Prison Farm

The upper area court Judge, Gambo Garba, sentenced Idris, whose address was not given without an option to pay a fine.

Idris, 20, was charged with three counts of joint act, theft and causing hurt.

Garba warned the convict to desist from committing crimes after serving out their punishment.

The judge held that his judgment would serve as deterrent to others.

Earlier, the prosecution counsel, Chinedu Ogada, told the court that Malam Abdullahi Ismail of Third Avenue Gwarinpa, Abuja, apprehended Idris took him to the Gwarinpa Police Station on June 5.

Ogada said that Idris and one Ali, criminally broke into the complainant’s house and stole his shoe valued N 5,000.

She said in the convict also violently stabbed the complainant with a scissors he brought out from his pocket.

The prosecutor explained that as a result, the complainant sustained serious injure in his hand.

Ogada told the court that Idris is perpetual criminal and had been convicted by the court.

According to her, the offence contravened the provisions of sections 79, 288 and 248 of the Penal Code.

The convict did not deny the charge preferred against him after his arraignment. (NAN)
