Hosts, Cherubim and Seraphim (C&S) Ministry (Covenant of Peace and Grace) at the weekend started their campaign in the maiden United for Christ Football League, an interdominational football tournament, on a winning note with a 1-0 victory over CKC Catholic Youth FC. Agbaje Olasukanmi scored the winning goal for C&S in the match played at the Nigeria Army Dog Centre, Ipaja, Lagos.

The C & S boys will face Christ Apostolic Church on November 9 in their second game.

Olusukanmi converted a pinpoint cross in the 17th minute to hand the hosts their goal, which they held on to, even when CKC Catholic boys fought back in the second half.

Expressing his delight at the outcome of the game, the General Leader of Cherubim and Seraphim Ministry (Covenant of Peace and Grace), Prophet Samson Abiodun Korode said he was happy at the outcome of the first game as his boys pulled a victory, noting that more is expected of the team if they must lift the trophy.

“This is my first time of watching them play and they won all their friendly matches. I think the boys should put in more effort because I am a footballer and I know what it takes to lift a trophy,” he said.

Korode said the inter-churches football tournament, the first of its kind in Nigeria, was organised by the church to promote healthy relationship among different churches in the country and encourage healthy living among Christ followers.

He added that the tournament serves as a means of evangelising to the youths and to help them discover and nurture their football talents in the Christendom.

“Immediately we organised this event some of these boys who don’t participate in religious activities are now doing so because of this football tournament and we still have more plan for Nigerian youths,” he added.
