Former Nigerian international, Etim Esin has urged the national U-20 women team, Falconets to see their quarterfinal opponents, Spain as equals, saying the team should approach tomorrow’s match at the ongoing FIFA Women U-20 World Cup as wounded lionesses.

Arguing that every team at this stage of the championship has equal opportunity of getting to the final, Esin applauded the Falconets for overcoming all odds to draw level with China at the last minute of their last group game on Monday.

He, however, cautioned that the hype about the Spanish team’s exploits in the group games should not in any way overwhelm the Nigerian girls resilience and determination to excel at the championship.

“The Falconets need to be more determined to outshine Spain in the quarterfinal game.

They should not entertain any fear ahead of the game.

Approaching Spain with a positive mindset would put the team on the right track to win the quarterfinal encounter.

“Every team at this stage has equal chance to move on in the competition.

All the coaches need to tell the girls is to give the Spanish team all their best.

The fighting spirit of the girls has taken them to this level.

“If the Super Eagles could not get to the second round of the World Cup and our young girls work hard to qualify the country to the next stage of the U-20 Women World Cup, the team should be encouraged and supported.

Criticisms would not augur well for the Falconets at this moment,” he said.
