Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to visit to the Benin Central Hospital again, as part of activities for the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally today.

A statement by the Chairman, Dan Orbih, noted that the visit would enable the President to appreciate the people’s disappointment over the state of the Hospital, which has been abandoned two years after he (Buhari) commissioned it.

He alleged that the hospital project was a fraud and deceit, urging President Buhari to use his good offices to direct the relevant government agencies to commence immediate investigation and necessary action to bring the principal actors to book.

“In November 2018 when we heard you were visiting Edo State, we issued a statement to remind you that over two years ago, former Governor Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole invited you to commission what was called a Five Star Hospital built and purportedly equipped by his administration. Unfortunately, you cancelled the visit.

“Just this morning, we were informed you will be coming on Thursday, January 17 and the only way we can talk to you is to write you this letter.

“We believe it will be of interest to you to know that since your visit in 2016, the ‘Five Star Hospital’ has neither recorded any out-patient, nor admitted any in-patient. The building hosts only rodents and reptiles,” he said.

Orbih noted that the concern of Edo people over what he described as a despicable act was not just that billions of taxpayers’ money was spent on the project, but that he (Buhari) was persuaded to commission a non-existent hospital that makes it look like the President as part of the deceit.

“Finally, Mr. President we urge you to pay a second visit to the Central Hospital to enable you appreciate the disappointment of the people over this scandal of fraud and deceit.

“We urge you to use your office to direct relevant government agencies to commence immediate investigation and necessary action to bring the principal actors to book,” the statement added.
