EFCC Arraigns Ex-Amnesty Boss, Accomplice On Alleged Fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned a former Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig.-Gen. Paul Boroh and one Hanafi Moriki, for converting $1.9m and N974.7m to personal use.

They were arraigned before Justice O. O. Goodluck of the FCT High Court, Abuja, on nine counts on Thursday.

The defendants were said to have, on different occasions, dishonestly converted the sums of N8.6m; N106.2m; N12.078m; N382.8m; N456m; N9m and more, while they were public officers.

One of the counts read, “That you, Paul Boroh and Hanafi Moriki, between the December 1, 2016, and July 30, 2017, in Abuja within the jurisdiction of this court, while serving public servants entrusted with property to wit; funds of the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta and Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme; dishonestly converted the sum of $1,914,000 to your own use and thereby committing an offense contrary to and punishable under section 315 of the Penal Code Law.”

A statement by the EFCC spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren, said the defendants pleaded not guilty.

Counsel for Boroh, Mike Ozekhome (SAN), prayed the court to grant his client bail on liberal terms.

Lawyer to the second defendant, O. Dada, also prayed the court to grant his client bail on similar terms.

Justice Goodluck adjourned the case to November 26, 27 and December 3 and 4, 2019 for trial.
