The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has fully restored electricity supply to Nsukka axis and its environs after a week-long black-out.

The Head of Communications of EEDC, Mr Emeka Ezeh, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Tuesday.

“As a palliative measure, we immediately commenced the transfer of feeders/customers to the new UNN 33KV feeder which takes supply from Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) Nru substation (which is the second source of supply to Nsukka, after the Oji 66KV line).

“As we speak the transfer has successfully been completed and power supply restored to the affected customers.

“Although, we lost power supply from Nru TCN substation at 11.29 p.m. on Aug. 25 but it was restored at 2:17 p.m. on Aug.  26.

“Customers who are still out of supply are encouraged to contact EEDC Service Centre responsible for their area for further attention or call our 24/7 Call Centre on 084700100,’’ he said.

Ezeh, however, said that the black-out affected residents of Nsukka town and surrounding communities.

He mentioned communities like Enugu Road, parts of University Road, GRA, Odenigwe, Hill Top, Coldroom, Odenigbo Road, Ugwuoye axis, Aku, Ibagwa, Edem, Nimbo, Obimo, Mkpologwu and Opanda.

“The customers in this axis of Enugu State were duly communicated via various channels when the black-out incident occurred,’’ Ezeh said.

NAN reports that on Aug. 17 at 5:20 p.m., Oji-Nsukka 66/33KV line belonging to the TCN tripped.

As a result of this, there was no supply at the Nsukka Main Transmission substation from where the following feeders in the EEDC network take supply.

The feeders are: Aku 11KV, Ugwuoye 11KV, Campus 11KV, Township 11KV and Ibagwa 33KV.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the black-out was caused by activities of vandals that affected five spans of the tower of the Oji-Nsukka 66 KV power-line.
