Godwin Onaje bagged a brace and Adou Blaise got the other as FC IfeanyiUbah thrashed newcomers, Remo Stars 3-0 in one of the rescheduled Week Eight matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

Obaje, who was the highest scorer in the NPFL last season while playing for Wikki Tourists, opened the floodgate of goals in the 53rd minute from the spot after Ekene Awazie was penalized for handling Ifeanyi Onuigbo’s cross in his box.

The scoreline would have been heavier, but for the heroics of goalkeeper Chizoba Ndukwe, who employed all tricks in the game to deny the Anambra Warriors more goals. But Ndukwe could not do anything to save FC IfeanyiUbah’s second goal by Adou Blaise off an Alberico da Silva free kick in the 84th minute.

Obaje made it three in the 91st minute when he converted a loose ball off another Alberico’s free kick to settle the tie. Yesterday’s win moved FC IfeanyiUbah to the 13th position on the log with 14 points and a game in hand, while Remo Stars prop the table with nine points in 12 games.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars suffered a second dismissal in one week when Kabuga was dismissed for a second bookable offence in the 86th minute of their game against Wikki Tourists. But before then, the Sai Masu Gida had already scored their winner through Alhassan in the 35th minute to earn the three points.

Former Enyimba captain, Chinedu Udoji, was dismissed in Pillars’ game against the People’s Elephant on Sunday in a game the former champions won 3-1. Pillars are now third on the table, while Wikki Tourists are just a step above bottom-placed Remo Stars.
