FC IfeanyiUbah are certain they will survive the heat in Egypt despite entering their CAF Confederation Cup second leg preliminary tie against Al Masry on Sunday with only a goal advantage.

The Nnewi-based side were expected to leave Nigeria for Port Said yesterday with a contingent that also includes 75 supporters. Explaining the decision to leave for Egypt yesterday, Club President, Dr. Ifeanyi Ubah, said it was necessary to give the contingent enough time to acclimatize to the North African country’s weather.

“We heard that the weather this time in Egypt is very cold so we are trying to get there on time for the players to adapt to the climate there,” he said.

The decision is also based on the belief by the club president that he has a better team than their adversaries and therefore given the players enough time to get used to their environment would help their cause.

“We played far much better than them in the first leg. We dominated the game and had 85 per cent possession. We created a lot of chances and missed no fewer than six scoring chances.

“Essentially, they were kept in the game by their goalkeeper. They played more defensively. But I know that in the return leg, the game will be open because they will come out for goals and that will make the game open,” he said.
