Mujibur Rehman Ibrahim, 25, was sentenced to four years behind bars and ordered to repay £40,000.
A former police worker has been jailed for stealing cash and two gold bars seized by officers as part of criminal investigations.

Mujibur Rehman Ibrahim appeared at Leicester Crown Court yesterday where he was sentenced to four years and ordered to pay back £40,000.

The 25-year-old, who has been dismissed by Leicestershire police, pleaded guilty to two counts of theft at an earlier hearing.
In April this year an investigation was launched by the East Midlands Serious and Organised Crime Unit after about £300,000, which had been seized as part of four criminal investigations, was found to have been taken from two safes at a police station in Leics.
Ibrahim, of Anstey, Leics, was arrested five days after the theft was discovered.

Deputy Chief Constable Roger Bannister said: “Ibrahim abused his position and exploited the trust invested in him.

“He was employed as a financial investigator – it was his job to help detect financial crimes and bring those responsible to justice.

“Instead he chose to exploit the access he had in a brazen attempt to steal cash from his employers.
“Following the discovery of the theft, we immediately launched a thorough review of all processes and systems we have in place in relation to the storage of property in order to prevent this from happening again.

“As this case demonstrates, any employee who chooses to disregard Force policy risks losing their job, and if a criminal offence has been committed, can expect to be brought before the courts.”
