Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has barred the district heads in the four newly created emirates from attending the durbar held in honour of the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II.
Durbar is an annual festival to celebrate the end of Ramadan, as well as Eid-el Kabir. It usually entails the emir riding a horse into town amid cheers from his subjects.
The Kano Emirate Council, led by Sanusi, had invited all district heads to attend the grand Daushe Durbar as was done in the past.
However, Ganduje in a statement, asked the district heads to attend the durbar in their new respective emirates.
The new emirates created by Ganduje include Rano, Gaya, Bishi and Karaye. The Kano emirate was retained but was given eight local government areas.
In a statement by Abba Anwar, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Ganduje said, “Against some calls circulating in the social media that all district heads were directed to attend Hawan Daushe at Kano Emir’s palace, the Kano State Government has directed all Hakimai to attend Hawan Daushe at their respective emirates.

“It is therefore directed that district heads from Bichi emirate should attend their Hawan Daushe with the first-class emir of Bichi, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, District Heads from Rano Emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir Alhaji Dr Tafida Abubakar (Autan Bawo).
“All district heads from Karaye emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Abubakar II. All district heads from Gaya emirate should attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulkadir; and those district heads from Kano emirate are also directed to attend Hawan Daushe with their first-class emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II.”
Ganduje and Sanusi have been at loggerheads since the last elections.
The governor’s camp accused the emir of supporting the Peoples Democratic Party which almost defeated the governor’s All Progressives Congress in the poll.
Weeks after winning the election, Ganduje sought the approval of the House of Assembly to split Sanusi’s emirate into five in a bid to whittle down his power. [PUNCH]
