A grieving mother has been fined by traditional authorities in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi for moaning her son’s death.
According to reports, Thursday on the Akan calendar is ‘dabone’ to wit [bad day] so it is a taboo to weep or make noise in the region.
But the woman, Maabena who knew about the ban could not help but weep uncontrollably aT the sudden demise of her five-year-old son, Nana Owusu.
Nhyira FM’s Naa Ameley who visited the scene said the woman was asked to pay GHȼ20 for violating the law.
But to make matters worse, father of the deceased was said to have dumped the naked corpse of the young boy at the house of his mother at Ayigya, a suburb in Kumasi.
Naa Ameley explained that, the boy whom hitherto lived with his father Bremang collapsed and died after a short ailment.
She noted that the parents had separated due to some relationship challenges but the father of the boy believes their son would have survived if Maabena had acted responsibly.
Residents at Ayigya, Naa added are dumbfounded at the actions of the man who should have supported the distraught woman.
