Ijaiye, Isale Eko win GTBank Lagos Principals Cup

As Tandoh hails bank for sports growth
Ijaiye Housing Estate Senior Grammar School, Ojokoro and Isale Eko Senior Grammar School Lagos Island emerged winners of the Guaranty Trust Bank Plc (GTBank Plc) Lagos State Season Nine Principals Cup in the boys and girls categories held at the Agege Stadium.

The Ijaiye school defeated Elepe Community High School 2-1 to take home the trophy, while Isale Eko girls humbled Girls High School, Agege 4-1 on penalties, to win the encounter after 0-0 at regulation time.

For their efforts, both schools won a cash prize of N1 million each in the boys and girls’ categories of the championship.

The first runners up schools were given N750,000, while the third placed schools got N500,000, as fourth position schools won for themselves a cash prize of N250,000.

Meanwhile, the Executive Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Tandoh Kweku, has commended the bank for its support and sponsorship of the school sports football tournament in the state.

Tandoh said the competition was a work in progress to bring back the glamour of Principals Cup, as it used to be in the past, adding that the yearly hosting of the competition is an indication of the focus of Lagos on sports growth in the state.

While also commenting on the competition, the Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank plc Segun Agbaje, said: “Sport plays a major role in the growth of life skills and this competition paves the way for youths to cultivate their sporting talents and aptitudes.

“We are thrilled by the outstanding performances in the competition thus far and remain committed to providing an avenue for students to showcase their talents and passion for the game of football even as they remain committed to their academics.”
