A total of 431 Almajiris are currently being quarantined at the Kano Corporate Security Institute, Gabasawa, as part of measures to ensure that no coronavirus infected Almajiri is evacuated to his home state.

The state Commissioner for Education and Chairman of the Almajiri Evacuation Committee, Alhaji Sanusi Kiru, told the Punch in Kano on Monday that the Almajiris are for Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states.

He said the measure was taken in order to ensure that no Almajiri that tested positive for the virus was returned to his home state as well as to curb the spread of the deadly pandemic in Kano State and the states they would be repatriated to.

“As I am talking to you now, there are 431 of such Almajiris who are from Kebbi, Sokoto and Zamfara states being quarantined. This is their third day at the place.

“They will be at the Kano Corporate Security Institute located at Gabasawa for two weeks before we transport them to their respective state of origin,” he said.

Recall that the Kaduna State Government had last week Monday, announced that five of the 195 Almajiri children evacuated from Kano tested positive for the virus after arriving the state.

He said the state government would continue to take all the necessary measures to prevent the spread of pandemic not only in Kano State but across the country.

The Kano State Government had so far evacuated over 1, 000 Almajiris to Katsina, Jigawa and Kaduna states since the exercise began about two weeks ago.
