The post was zoned to Kogi ahead of the 17th August National Convention in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. The leaders also refuted reports that they had endorsed another aspirant from the state, stating that at no time did they sat down with him or anyone else to carryout any endorsement because he is not even qualified to run for any office of the party at the forth coming convention because of the Port Harcourt convention proclamation where the Caretaker was constituted and all members of the committee were bared from contesting for any position at the proposed convention.
The leaders further added that even the Convention Planning Committee at its inaugural meeting in Port-Harcourt which was chaired by the Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike had made it categorically clear that no Members of the Caretaker Committee would be allowed to contest and as such, there was no way they could have gone against the decision as loyal party leaders.
