It is that time of the year once again when members of the Lakowe Lakes Golf Course take to the field to vie for honours in the 2018 Club Championship, a 36-hole event billed this year to hold on December 1 and 2.

According to the organisers of the competition, the event at the picturesque golf course will witness more contestants as many players have indicated interest in being part of the show.

Last year, Tunji Adebajo and Georgia Oboh won the male and female categories respectively, but the competition this year will run without Oboh who has joined the professional ranks.

Speaking on the competition, Lakowe Lakes Golf Course’ Head Professional and Operations Manager, Femi Olagbenro said the growing membership of the club has given rise to new challenges for participants and past winners at events at the club.

“We have over 60 players that have already signaled to take part; we expect the event to be a tough battle for the former winners in different categories,” he said.

He assured that the golf course was also being primed for the event with the greens and fairways being given professional growing in readiness for the traffic that the two days will attract.

The event will feature contests in the gentlemen, ladies and veteran categories.

Top among this year’s contenders for the title are Cubus Classen, Douglas Koebe, Peter Eben-Spiff, Frank Momoh, James Heur, Richard Smith and Winston Strasser in the men’s category, while Fatumata Coker, Njide Ndili and Idowu Babalakin are all tipped for the lady’s crown.

The event will end with the prize presentation gala at the end of the second round, where all the winners will be presented with their award.
