MBA 23 wins Coronation Trustees sponsored LBS Dean’s Cup

Executive MBA (EMBA) 23 at the weekend defeated Executive MBA 6 2-1 to clinch this year’s Lagos Business School Dean’s Cup played at the LBS Grounds, Abraham Adesanya, Lekki.

Executive MBA 23 demonstrated their dominance in the 15th minute when Tunde Nwafor opened scoring through a well placed shot that caught the goalkeeper napping before Tobi Ajayi levelled up for Executive MBA 6 in 24th minute from set pieces.EMBA 23, however, clinched the winning goal from set pieces through Samson Sonusi in the 60th minute to claim the cup.

However, Executive EMBA 22 won the Fair Play award while EMBA 23 got the one for the best supporters’ club. Highest goal scorer went to Tobi Ajayi and Gbenga Olaoye, who received the best goalkeeper award respectively. Also, Tunde Amoo was recognised as the most valuable player of the competition while the winning team went home with cash prize of N150,000.

Speaking at event, Managing Director of the bank, Mrs. Oghogho Osula, said the bank supported the game to add value to others and demonstrate their commitment to the people.

While noting that LBS is one the top 50 business schools in the world with international accreditations, Osula said they identified with the school because they are the best in the country.

She described sport as an avenue to enhance good health, socialise and network.According to her, business could take sport as an avenue to promote healthy lifestyle and how people could improve in their endeavours.

Dean of the school, Dr. Enase Okonedo said the competition originally started as an informal game between two classes in 2005 and has grown to include all MBA classes.She said students found the MBA programme to be very intensive and they therefore want to encourage them to have a balanced and healthy lifestyle despite the rigours of academics.

She revealed that the school also encourages the students to go to the field on Saturdays to build the eagerness to participate in games.Speaking on the relationship between sport and business, Okonedo said entertainment and business in sport are entwined noting the Dean’s Cup is more about entertainment and lifestyle benefits.He stated that sport has grown and become big business all over the world, the dean revealed that the school would launch a sport management programme next year the first in Africa to look at the business side of sport, which is lacking in this part of the world.
