• Governor Dickson set to honour wrestlers

Following their impressive performances at the United World Wrestling Championships (UWWC) in Paris, France, silver medalist, Odunayo Adekuoroye, and the rest of the team are to be honoured by Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa State. However, Adekuoroye is still intrigued by the silence she has received from Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung and the ministry officials over her feat in Paris.

The other wrestlers, who did well in Paris, are Blessing Oburududu, who came fourth in the 63kg category and Aminat Adeniyi, who placed eight in the 58kg.

“I want to believe that the minister is still thinking of when to receive me,” Adekuoroye told The Guardian. “We returned from the championship about three weeks ago and I am yet to receive a call from him. I do not know if he is planning to meet me or not, but I do not want to be forward too.

“I am aware that the ladies, the D’Tigress, who won this year’s FIBA Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Mali, were honoured the following day they arrived from Mali. That day was exactly the day we too arrived into the country and they have been rewarded. I do not know when I too will be received,” she said.

It will be recalled that the D’Tigress were received by President Muhammadu Buhari and his Vice, Yemi Osinbajo, for the glory achieved for the country and each of the players was given N1 million, while the coaching crew each got N500,000.
