Naomi Scott to Play the Pink Ranger in Lionsgate’s ‘Power Rangers’

Naomi Scott has signed up to star in the upcoming “Power Rangers” movie. Lionsgate made the casting announcement on Instagram, confirming that the British actress would portray Kimberly a.k.a. the Pink Ranger.

“It’s official! #NaomiScott will play the #PinkRanger in the @PowerRangersMovie! Coming in 2017…,” the caption reads. The Pink Ranger was originally played by Amy Jo Johnson from 1993-1996.

There are some other actors who reportedly became the candidates to star in the upcoming film. KJ Apa, Austin Butler and Mitchell Hope are the actors competing for the role of Jason a.k.a. the Red Ranger. Daniel Zovatto, Ross Butler and Brian Marc are in contention for Zack a.k.a. the Black Ranger.

The upcoming movie is based on ’90s TV series, “Mighty Morphin Power Rangers”, in which a group of ordinary high school kids, who possess extraterrestrial powers, join forces to save the world, with the aid of giant mechanical vehicles known as Zords. Dean Israelite is attached to direct the movie which is due to hit U.S. theaters on January 13, 2017.

Scott first appeared in “Lemonade Mouth”. She also starred on 2011’s FOX TV series “Terra Nova”. She most recently appeared in “The Martian” and will next be seen in Chilean miners drama “The 33”.
