Ndigbo In Benue Tips Gaya For Deputy Senate President

Ndigbo in Benue State have asked the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to support Senator Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya (APC, Kano South) for the office of the deputy Senate president in the incoming 9th National Assembly.

They said that the choice of Senator Gaya followed his commitment to using the Senate Committee on Works, which he chairs, to tackle the erosion menace in the Southeast zone.

One of the leaders of the Igbo in the state, Chief Ikenna Obi, said that his people were pleased with Senator Gaya’s humanness as a federal lawmaker, adding that an autonomous community in Enugu State realising this fact, honoured him last year with a chieftaincy title because of his contributions to the development of Southeast.

Obi said that it is the belief of Igbo that if Gaya becomes the deputy Senate president, the aspiration of Igbo in the ruling APC would realised.

He appealed to the APC leadership to give Gaya the opportunity to serve in that capacity because any other candidate for the office could be a slight on the Igbo nation.

Another Ibo leader in Benue who did not want his name in print said that he had not met with the senator one-on-one, but believes that the former Kano governor is a leader that can be trusted.

He joined those who have called on the APC to avoid the mistake of 2015 and elect all APC members as principal officers of the both houses of the National Assembly for the speedy development of the country.

He said that there would be no excuses for the APC to fail to deliver on its agenda in its second term in office.
