Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) led by their president, Melvin Amaju Pinnick, held a closed-door meeting with the Super Eagles players and technical crew entered into a crisis meeting in Kaliningrad immediately after Saturday’s loss to Croatia.

The meeting, according to some officials, was at the instance of the NFF, which wanted to find out if anything was wrong with the Eagles, as well as reassures them that Nigerians were still with them despite the loss.

One of the officials told The Guardian that the meeting was to ensure that “the Eagles did not repeat the unimpressive performance against Croatia in subsequent matches.”

The official revealed that after the meeting, the players assured Nigerians that they would strive to win the remaining group games.

Meanwhile, as some members of the Nigerian delegation are busy working to ensure the Super Eagles succeed at the on-going FIFA World Cup in Russia, others are busy campaigning for election into the NFF’s board.

The Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung, recently advised the board members and other stakeholders to suspend all election activities until after the ongoing FIFA World Cup, but some of the aspirants have carried out with their campaigns even with Nigeria’s current precarious situation in the competition.

The NFF executive board election will hold in September when the tenure of the Amaju Pinnick-led board will officially end.

The electoral committee has already released the guidelines guiding the polls.

While Pinnick has declared his intension to seek re-election, several other members of the board have not hidden their desire for a second term.

Also, other stakeholders, especially some state Football Association Chairmen and NPFL club managers have taken their campaigns to Russia.

Among the candidates who are Russia include Anambra FA chairman, Ifeanyi Ubah, who wants to become the chairman of chairmen. The position is currently being occupied by Shehu Gusau from North West.

Chairman of Katsina United FC, Alhaji Aminu Balele Kurfi is also rumoured to be interested in the position.
