Nigeria’s first female professor of Fine and Applied Arts and first female president of Ceramics Association of Nigeria, Professor (Mrs.) Grace Ngozi Ojie-Ogwu, will tomorrow, November 15, deliver the 67th inaugural lecture of Delta State University, Abraka. A professor of Ceramics and Arts Education, Ojie-Ogwu was educated at the University of Benin, where she obtained a first class honours bachelor of arts degree and later a master of education. She took two master’sdegrees and a doctorate in Fine Arts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. She joined the Department of Fine and Applied Arts of defunct Bendel State University, Ekpoma, and was one of the pioneering staff when Delta State University started in 1992.
Ojie-Ogwu had at various times served as Head of Department of Fine and Applied Arts before being elected Dean of Faculty of Arts in 2015. A member of the University’s Governing Council, she is a widely acclaimed scholar with a global influence. The title of the inaugural lecture, which begins at 11.00am, is, The Beauty and the Ugliness of Ceramics Production and Utilization: Nigeria’s Intervention Roles. The lecture will be chaired by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Victor F. Peretomode. A cocktail and reception in honour of the lecturer will follow immediately.
