The chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Modern Pentathlon Youth Olympic Games qualifier and Senior African Championship tournament, Chief Francis Ogboro has commended the world body for their foresight in giving Nigeria the hosting right for the global event.

Chief Ogboro, who made the commendation in Lagos on Monday during an interactive session with members of the Media Committee, said the Modern Pentathlon Union did not make any mistake in choosing Nigeria as host for the event that would be taking place in Africa for the first time.

On his position as the Chairman of the LOC, Chief Ogboro, who is also the President of the Nigeria Polo Federation said: “Chairing the LOC is really not a big deal as there is nothing too hard in it.” He has held the position as Polo boss for over eight years running.

According to him, the LOC saw him as the best man for the job because of his pedigree in sports development and there was no way he could say no.

“People see me as an icon when it comes to spots administration because of my record and when I was approached by the president of the Modern pentathlon, Chief Jonathan Nnaji, who incidentally is the vice chairman of the LOC, there was no way I could refuse having known that they must have done their research very well before coming to me. I want to assure you that we will not fail the nation.”

He disclosed that he was already getting positive report from all the seven sub-committees under his LOC ‘just the way the media/publicity sub-committee has been working.’

Ogboro further stated that his team would make Nigeria proud come December 2017.

On the security of those visiting Nigeria for the event, the Nigeria Polo Federation President stressed that there was no cause for alarm, even as he reaffirmed that the visitors would definitely sleep with their two eyes closed, saying that a 24-hour all round security network had since been put in place.

On the N75 million required by the LOC to host a successful Youth Olympic Games qualifier, Chief Ogboro said that the money is not a big deal for his committee as they have already mobilized and even spread their tentacles to those that matters to complement the effort of the marketing consultants.
