In order to ensure peaceful general elections in the country, youths from the six geo-political zones have signed a peace accord in Abuja ahead of the presidential election tomorrow.
This peace accord was signed at the Guard Nigeria Summit, Nigeria Youth Peace Accord with the theme: “The die is cast, no victor, no vanquished,” organised in Abuja by Guard Nigeria Image and Value Initiatives (GNIVI) and Nigerian Youth in Diaspora Engagement Forum.
The convener of the event and executive director of GNIVI, Mr. Promise Amahah, who spoke on behalf of the youths, explained that the signing of the accord was prompted by the rising tension in the political atmosphere.
Amahah said that the accord would serve as a direction which youths from the six zones will follow during and after the general elections, saying that there is no way there would be development in a country where there is crisis.

“We have risen up to the occasion to affirm our power and unity to guard our future and nation. We today change the narrative that the majority is powerless and that minority is powerful.
“We come together to resist negative inducement, incitement and instigation against ourselves and our nation. We refused to participate in any form of violence by any means, shape or form. We refused and reject every form of negative manipulation by anyone for his selfish interests.
“We rise up as one today to take our collective destiny in our hands and send a clear message to the whole world that we are one and united against any violence and primordial sentiment. We shall hold responsible anyone and everyone who tend to violate our peace accord in any way,” he said.
Mr. Mike Omotosho, national chairman of Labour Party (LP), who was among dignitaries that witnessed the event, advised Nigeria youths not to allow politicians to use them to perpetrate violence during and after the election, saying that there is the need to ensure the unity of Nigeria irrespective of the outcome of the election.
