• Agbeniyi Gets Visa, Jets Out
Nigeria’s hope of salvaging a medal at the London 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championship came crashing once again yesterday, as the trio of Blessing Okagbare-Ighoteguonor, Oluwatobiloba Amusan and Lindsay Lindley failed in their respective events.

The fall came even as sports ministry officials confirmed yesterday that the 14 Nigerian competing athletes received $100 dollars per day for 14 days being $1,400 for each athlete except Edose Ibadin who left camp earlier with $800.
The duo of Amusan and Lindley began the day poorly, finishing 7th and 4th respectively in the semifinal of the women’s 100m hurdles.
While Lindley ran a school girl time of 13.18 seconds to place seventh in her semifinal, Amusan, who was Nigeria’s hope in the event ran 13.04 seconds in her race to finish 4th.
Then came the moment many Nigerians were waiting for, the women’s long jump final. Okagbare could only managed a 6.55m leap to place 8th overall in the event won by USA Brittney Preese in 7.02m.
Attention has shifted to the 4x400m women and 4x100m women, as Abike Agbeniyi is expected to arrive in London this morning in time to compete in the 4x400m women tomorrow.
Agbeniyi was given a visa late yesterday, while the federation booked her on the next available flight to arrive in London today.
The Championship ends tomorrow.
