No room for mercenaries in 2018 NOGIG, says organisers

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the 2018 Nigerian Oil and Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) says it has put the machinery in place to ensure that only genuine staffers compete in the Games.

The 17th edition of the Games will hold in Lagos from Sunday, February 18 to 24.

The LOC chairman, Aminu Zaria said yesterday in Lagos that his committee has lined up series of innovations to add more glamour to the Games. “We have told the various committees to make sure that only genuine staffs take part in the events, and they are working very hard to adhere to the warning,” Zaria said.

The NOGIG, a biennial event, commenced in 1986 in Eket, Akwa Ibom State with only one event (squash) and a few participating companies. It has grown to 11 events with 13 companies participating in this year’s edition.

According to the LOC chairman, the Games is for all confirmed employees of companies in the Oil and Gas sector to come together under a convivial atmosphere to interact with one another and promote friendship through sporting competition. “It also create an opportunity for us to enhance our physical well-being and mental alertness in adherence to the industry’s Health, Safety, Environment (HSE) requirements,” Zaria stated.

The events will hold simultaneously in four locations (Chevron-Gbagada, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Legacy pitch at National Stadium, Lakowa Golf Club and Ikoyi Club 1938.
