The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) has revealed that the internal wrangling between the current Nigerian Basketball Federation (NBBF) president, Musa Kida and his predecessor, Tijani Umar has not been resolved with the November 30 deadline given to the federation by world governing body, FIBA, to resolve the issues ends on Thursday.

Speaking with The Guardian yesterday, NOC Secretary, Tunde Popoola said the committee has given Kida and Umar the mandate to reach a compromise and get back to it today, adding that the last meeting held with them ended in a deadlock.

He revealed that the NOC would send a report to FIBA on the outcome of the meeting this week, adding that Nigerian basketball might not face any sanction from FIBA even if the parties failed to resolve the issues, saying the body was only interested in NBBF’s internal democracy.

“After the meeting the NOC had with Kida and Umar, we gave them one week to reach a compromise and get back to us when they could not reach a resolution. I think the deadline would end on Monday (today) for them to get back to NOC. But I must confess that based on the situation in the last meeting, the two parties involved are still not in agreement. But we are still hoping that they settle their differences because it would go far in the development of Nigerian basketball.

“I don’t think FIBA would sanction NBBF because if you read the letter all they want is for NBBF to organise their internal democratic structure to meet its standard. FIBA will not do anything that would jeopardize the future of Nigeria players and coaches,” he said.
