Obaseki, Okoro win as golfers celebrate Okunbo at 60

Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State was among the winners at the Benin Club’s Golf Section at the weekend where golfers came to celebrate Captain Hosa Okunbo at 60.

The pro-am competition, which drew players from across the country, came to a thrilling end on Saturday with a party that lasted till the early hours of yesterday.

The week-long golf tournament attracted about 300 professional and amateur golfers with Governor Obaseki (18 handicap) coming tops in the special guests category with a net score of 73, while Dan Mayuku and Sylva Umole placed second and third respectively. Edo State’s Deputy Governor, Comrade Philip Shaibu settled for the fourth place.

Aghedo emerged the overall winner of the amateur category with a net score of 73, while Benin-based Chukwudi Okoro won the professional cadre ahead of the duo of Sunday Oladipo and Ramsy, who placed second and third respectively.

The organisers also presented a N5 million cheque to the Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria (PGAN) to be shared among the over 90 professional golfers that took part at the event as their prize money.
