Stephen Odey scored his 14th goal of the season yesterday from the penalty spot as MFM FC went back to the top of the NPFL table with a 3-0 defeat of El Kanemi Warriors at the Agege Stadium. Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr, was among the spectators in the game, which also drew some members of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and LMC officials to the stands. It was, however, a violent end to the game between Kano Pillars and Akwa United at the Sani Abacha Stadium, where the Uyo-based team shocked Pillars 1-0.

MFM FC are now on 33 points courtesy of the win, which also saw Austine Ogunye and Sikiru Olatunbosun in the scorers’ books. El-Kanemi maintain their third position on the log on 30 points.

Yesterday’s defeat is Pillars’ first of the season at home, but it did not go down well with their fans, who invaded the pitch and threatened the match officials with dangerous weapons. Akwa United players and officials also had to hide in the dressing room under heavy police protection.

There were also reports of fracas in Katsina where the home team beat Enyimba 2-1. Chinedu Ohanachom gave Enyimba the lead in the 21st minute, but Katsina United came back to win the game through two second half goals from Obinna Eleje and Chinedu Udechukwu.

Shooting Stars defeated Niger Tornadoes 2-1 in Ibadan with Sunday Faleye (36th) and Emmanuel netting (81st) in between a Wilfred Ammeh 76th minute goal for Tornadoes.
