The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, has assured researchers of commercialisation of their products in the forthcoming science and technology expo.

He said the objective of the expo is to promote collaboration between researchers and investors with a view to commercialising research results, and innovations from Nigeria’s research and tertiary institutions.

Onu assured researchers that the Ministry will continue to support research and innovation so as to promote competitiveness. He said: “There is a need to make our nation more self reliant as this would help create jobs, abundant wealth and eradicate poverty since Nigeria as a nation cannot be rich while many of its citizens are poor.”

The Minister decried the desperation of some Nigerians, who had been subjected to untold hardship in their quest to cross the Mediterranean Sea in search of greener pastures in Europe.

“If we effectively deploy science and technology to harness the resources available to us by nature, people in Europe would be the ones struggling to come to us,” Onu noted.

He disclosed that the solar powered electronic system, which was manufactured by the Ministry has been improved, and taken to the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC) for approval.
