The Oodua People’s Congress (OPC) has expressed profound sorrow and heartfelt condolences to the family of the Late Toba Ajiboye, aka Toba Ijaya, the Organising Secretary of the Lagos State chapter of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), who was tragically murdered armed assailants in Lagos.

In a statement by the OPC Publicity Secretary, Barrister Yinka Oguntimehin, he described the untimely death of Comrade Ajiboye as a grievous loss not only to his family but also to the NURTW Lagos State chapter and the broader Mushin community in Lagos.

He acknowledged Ajiboye’s dedication and commitment to the welfare of transport workers and the significant role he played in the union’s activities.

“The Oodua People’s Congress mourns with the family of Comrade Toba Ajiboye, whose life was cruelly cut short in a senseless act of violence.

“His contributions to the NURTW and the Lagos community at large are immeasurable, and his loss leaves a void that will be deeply felt,” Oguntimehin stated.

Ajiboye was reportedly attacked and killed by unidentified gunmen along the Ikorodu Road corridor, a development that has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for justice from various quarters.

The Publicity Secretary also extended condolences to the Lagos State and National Executive Councils of the NURTW, recognising the pain and shock that the union leadership and members are experiencing in the wake of the tragedy.

In addition to expressing sympathy, Barrister Oguntimehin called on the Lagos State Government to take urgent and decisive action to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to justice.

He emphasised the importance of a thorough investigation and prosecution to serve as a deterrent to others who might contemplate similar criminal acts.

“It is imperative that the Lagos State Government demonstrates its commitment to justice by ensuring that those responsible for this dastardly act are apprehended and prosecuted in accordance with the law. This will send a strong message to criminal elements that such acts of violence will not be tolerated in our state,” he said.

Furthermore, Oguntimehin appealed to the government to enhance security measures across Lagos State to prevent future occurrences of such violent crimes.

He highlighted the need for improved policing, intelligence gathering, and community engagement to create a safer environment for all residents.

“The safety and security of Lagosians must be a top priority. We call on the government to review and strengthen its security architecture, ensuring that law enforcement agencies are adequately equipped and motivated to protect lives and property,” he added.
