Organisers pick October for NURTW President’s Peace Cup

Organisers of the Yasin Peace Cup, a competition set up in honour of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) president, Najeem Usman Yasin as a peace ambassador, have revealed that the event will hold towards the end of October.

A statement by the Managing Director and Chief Executive officer, Football Support Enterprise Service (FSES), Deacon Augustine Ebaju, said the Peace Cup is in appreciation of the current peace and tranquility being witnessed in motor parks nationwide since the emergence of Yasin as NURTW leader.

The statement revealed that the Peace Cup will feature teams from the 36 states and Abuja, with the goal of engaging the youths to make better use of their time and energy rather than taking to crime and other anti-societal behaviour.

It said the competition will see teams decked in customised Jerseys, which will be made free to the over 4,000 players expected at the competition.

According to Ebaju, whose outfit is organisning the event, “the Yasin Peace Cup is self-sponsored with support from football friends. Therefore, this is an opportunity for members of the NURTW, who consider Yasin as their mentor and role model, to celebrate him.”

The publicity committee of the competition, he said, will soon embark on a nationwide tour in promotion of the competition, adding they would also use it as an opportunity to seek support of members of the NURTW for the success of the competition.
