Organisers of the annual International Pairs competition have chosen September 15 as the tee off date for the competition scheduled for the golf section of Ikoyi Club 1938. It will end on September 17.

According to the Chief Executive Officer of Falcon Golf Development Company Limited, Remi Olukoya, whose company is in charge of the competition, between 150 and 200 players are expected to feature in the event that has already started creating excitement among golf enthusiasts across the country.

Olukoya said this year’s edition of the competition has an added ingredient because of the introduction of a Children’s Clinic.“The International Pairs, as you know, is very popular among golfers and that is why every year we bring in new innovations that will make the championship very interesting.

“For the 2017 edition, apart from the razzmatazz that is associated with the competition, we have also added another flavour by introducing children’s dimension to the game,” Olukoya said, “We have secured sponsorship for promising kids to participate for free.”

While calling on sponsors to buy into the tournament, Olukoya explained that proceeds from the competition would be invested in the first of its kind Golf Academy to be run in conjunction with Lagos State government.

The 2017 winning pairs, Olukoya added, will represent Nigeria at the world final of International Pairs in Portugal. He explained that the team would be accommodated at JJW Hotels & Golf Resort from November 5 to 10, 2017.

The event will be staged on the Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course, a frequent holder of the Portuguese Open, the first course to be constructed in the Algarve.
