The Canadian Government recently presented one of the highest National Merit Award Of Service to a Nigerian-Canadian Citizen, Mrs Iyabode Lanre Tunji Ajayi, M.S.M. The présentation is to be announced at a latter date.

The Governor General of Canada in person of Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Julie Payette,made it clear in the letter of award that it is a testament to her outstanding achievement and service to the nation.
Mrs Iyabode Lanre Tunji Ajayi has been and advocate of sickle cell disease for over 20 years. She did not just merit the award, she is the co-founder of the sickle cell awareness group of Ontario (scago)
and the brain behind the establishment of the Ontario Hemoglobinopathies Patient Association. She recently co-investigated a research question which now puts the number of those affected with SCD in ontario to 3,345.
This is not the first award she will be receiving, in 2017, she received the Canadian senate 150 award in recognition of her work in the area of newborn screening and enactment of June 19 as national SCD awareness day in Canada.
In 2018, she was recognised as one of the 100 most accomplished black Canadian women.
Sshe attended St. Annes School, Ibadan and graduated from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University in 1989.
