A Masaka Upper Area Court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old painter, Aminu Usman, to five months imprisonment for inciting another man’s wife.
Usman, a resident of Mararaba, Nasarawa State, pleaded guilty to a count charge of inciting a married woman and asked for mercy.
“I did not believe her when she told me to stop calling her that she was a married woman. Since I now know, I will not do that again,” Usman said.
The Judge, Yakubu Ishaku, however, gave him an option of N7, 000 fine.
He also warned Usman to desist from running after peoples’ wives and look for his own wife, if he was not yet married.

The Prosecutor, Frank Swem, had told the court that one Umar Ibrahim of Luvu Madaki Masaka, Nasarawa State, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Station, Masaka, on Jan. 14.
Swem said that on Jan. 6, at about 5:30 p.m., the complainant’s wife, Zainab Ibrahim informed her husband that the defendant had been calling her with a particular phone number.
The prosecutor said that anytime the defendant called her, he would tell her that he liked her sweet voice, asking her to meet him at Mararaba.
Swem added that the defendant kept doing that despite several warnings from the complainant’s wife, who informed him that she was married.
He said the complainant later planned with his wife and lured the defendant to Area 1 Junction, Masaka, where he was arrested.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened the provisions of Section 389 of the Penal Code.
