Panes House wins King’s College Inter-House competition

Panes House at the weekend set a record of three consecutive wins at King’s College 97th annual Inter-House sports. The house, also known as Blue House, won the 2014, 2015 and the current 2017 sports competitions back-to-back.

The fierce competition at the weekend had board members, parents, students of the college and other invited schools and sports enthusiasts cheering the athletes as they vied for honours at the school’s Sports Complex, main campus, Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

The event featured both the junior and senior students of the college, as well as the visually impaired in such events as athletics, long and high jump, shotput, javelin, football, basketball, cricket, tennis, discuss, volleyball and scrabble, among others.

Panes House (Blue) emerged the overall winner by topping the medal table with a total of 53 medals, comprising 20 gold, 19 silver and 14 bronze medals, beating Red House (Hyde Johnson), which secured 17 gold, 12 silver and 17 bronze medals to clinch the second position.

Green House (Harman’s) garnered 12 gold, 10 silver and 14 bronze medals to finish third place, while Mkee Wright House (Yellow) managed to win nine gold, 11 silver and 13 bronze medals to sit in the fourth place.

The competition also featured invited schools’ relay race, old boys race, parents, academic and non-academic staff race, both in the male and female categories, with winners smiling home with medals and gifts.

Speaking at the event, the Principal, King’s College, Mr. Anthony Oluseyi Thomas, said sporting activities was part of the daily routine of the college in which the students constantly exhibit their sporting skills in the field.
