The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national legal adviser, Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem has described the postponement of the election as a national shame.

He further said: “How can the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have logistics challenges when it had enough time to plan the elections, when the 2019 elections budget is the highest since 1999.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Charles Udoh, said the people of the state are sad over the development, adding the electoral body took more than four years to prepare for the elections.

Udon wondered why Nigerians were not informed on time. “Some persons flew in from abroad and took leave from work. It puts a lot of question marks as to the entire process leading to postponing the election just few hours to the election. How did we get here? How could we become so desperate to cling unto power?”

On his part, former House of Representatives member, Chief Nduese Essien said the postponement did not come as surprise to him because it goes to confirm his convictions that the APC has lost out in the election.

PDP Publicity Secretary, Mr. Ini Ememobong said the postponement has caused the country a huge national embarrassment and an indication that for four years INEC could not prepare for a day election.

Despite the postponement, major shops, market eateries, streets in Akwa Ibom were deserted, as operators have either gone to their villages to vote or are afraid of hoodlums capitalising on the situation to cause mayhem.

Most fuel stations along Ikot Ekpene, Oron, Abak Roads and others remained closed, as streets like Abak, Aka, Ikot Ekpene, Wellington Bassey, Idoro Roads and adjourning streets were all deserted.
