Plateau State Governor, Simeon Lalong has commended the Professional Golfers’ Association of Nigeria (PGA) for successfully staging its seminar at the Rayfield Golf Club, in Jos, last weekend.
The governor, who is also a life vice-president of the body, stated that he was impressed with the level of impact the PGA made with the three-day event that ran between August 11 and 13.
According to Lalong, “I must say that apart from being honoured to host these crop of intending professionals, it was also a pleasure to witness the depth and the impact this programme will have on these players.”
The governor also committed to being physically present at the finals of the qualifying School in January 2018, wherever the event is being hosted.

At the event, that featured 79 of the 92 applicants seeking Nigeria’s Professional Golfers Association membership, the Director of the body, Samson Lawal and his team harped on the need for the players to be an embodiment of the game.
“These young ones, apart from the skills they have, will be representing not only the PGA, but the game, and we want them to know what that entails. Seeking PGA membership is beyond the playing ability, that is why the seminar is set up, to let them know what the body, the golfing community and the entire world is expecting from them by aspiring to be professional golfers. And I am very glad it went well, especially with the support of the governor and the host club, Rayfield Golf Club in Jos,” he said.
Minna Cantonment based professional, Martin Odoh took the players on an in depth look at the rules of the game and gave insights to grey spots for the applicants.
His class also expounded on managing one’s playing ability. Paul Gyancy ran the class on Education and Career development, while Mike Alika and Jide Bolaji rounded off the classroom series with health class and the potential value a professional can add to the game and local club.
The event also featured two rounds of golf at the host club, where the players had a feel of some of the challenges they will face when the Qualifying School tees-off in January.
